What we collect
If you use our contact form, we get the name, email, callsign, and message you typed. Formspree delivers it to our inbox. We use it to answer you and nothing else.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics tells us which pages get read - page views, a rough location from your IP address, and general browser and device details. We see it only as aggregate counts. If you decline, or ignore the banner, the Google script is never loaded and no request is made to Google at all.
Our host, Vercel, logs requests the way any web server does - IP address, page, timestamp - to serve the site and absorb abuse.
Cookies
Your light or dark preference and your answer to the cookie banner are kept in your browser and never leave your device. Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are set only if you accept, and last up to two years.
Who else sees it
Only the services that run the site: Formspree, Vercel, and Google if you accepted analytics. Each acts under its own privacy terms, and all of them are in the United States. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or pass your contact details to anyone - including the National Weather Service - without asking you first.
How long we keep it
Contact messages stay in our inbox while the conversation is useful and get cleared out after that. Google holds analytics event data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months. What is stored in your browser stays until you clear your browser data.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent - just email swmoskywarn@gmail.com. We are volunteers, so give us a few days.
For anyone covered by the GDPR: our legal bases are your consent for analytics and our legitimate interest in running a secure site and replying to people who write to us, and you may also complain to your data protection authority. In practice, the fastest way to remove analytics data about yourself is to decline and clear your browser data - we have no way to identify you inside Google Analytics.
Changes
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top of it. Material changes to analytics reset your consent, so you will be asked again.
